The German Academic Exchange Service DAAD was founded in 1925 in Heidelberg (Germany), on the initiative of individual students. The DAAD supports over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe every year, and is, therefore, one of the most important and largest organizations promoting international students and scholars exchanges.
The German Academic Exchange Service DAAD promotes the internationalization of German HEIs, strengthening of Germanic studies and German language abroad, introduces programs of academic exchanges and internships, supports developing countries in the process of building the network of potent universities and provides advisory services to key professionals in the spheres of education policy, researches abroad and politics in relation to developing countries.
In Ukraine DAAD is presented by the Information Center since 1998. It is situated at National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic Institute”
The tasks of the Office, above all, are to:
- inform and consult interested parties about the German system of higher education, as well as opportunities for studying in Germany and receiving scholarships;
- organize and hold a competition for awarding DAAD scholarships;
- collaborate with former DAAD scholarship holders;
- support cooperation between German and Ukrainian HEIs, provide advisory services within the framework of interuniversity partnership;
- cooperate with the Embassy of Germany and representatives of German educational organizations;
- cooperate with DAAD lecturers working in Ukraine.
For the sake of deepening the language training of students and teachers, as well as strengthening partnership with German academic and scientific institutions, DAAD lecturer Carsten Grunwaldt was working as a teacher at Sumy national agrarian university foreign languages department, October 2015 – September 2020.
Since 2002, SNAU has been actively involved into implementation of the DAAD projects jointly with the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (Germany). Just then, with the active support of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Master Course “Administrative Management” (MBA – Master of Business Administration in Agriculture ) was established.
In 2020, Sumy NAU became one of the executors of the project ”Digitalization of Ukrainian Higher Education Institution” (duration: 2020-2021), which aims at developing of digital skills and performance, contribution to efficient, high performing educational structures and preparation for future-oriented challenges.
Project goals and objectives are:
- Exchange on the administrative level;
- Training of lecturers in interactive apps;
- Development of online learning materials such as MOOC´s;
- Organization of events to train students and lecturers in digital methods.
